Wherever You Are by Ci’Monique Green describes a wife’s struggle to cope with life following the unexpected tragedy of her husband’s death. Aven withdraws into her private world of torture as she endures the funeral and the well-wishes and innocent gestures of concerned friends and family. In her grief, her husband’s best friend Josh becomes a confidant, but eventually Aven turns to her parents to provide the comfort and support she so desperately needs. Unbeknownst to her, further tragedy awaits, but there is final consolation that enables Aven to face up to the challenges that life has thrown at her. Her father’s strength and composure and her mother’s obsessive love help her to finally face a future without her husband, who was and always will be the love of her life.
This is an emotive story that author Ci’Monique Green has sensuously woven to take the reader into the very heart and mind of the widow. The author writes with such passion and describes the hidden depths of pain of which I, as the reader, had not even conceived. There is not only the incredible numbness and inconsolable grief, but the depth of passion and love that is described which left me breathless. The writing is deep and moving and conveys such expressions of hopelessness and despair that I wondered how Aven could possibly survive. I have never before read such passionate writing that made me feel the depth of emotion and pain and actually made my heart hurt. I would love to read more of Ci’Monique Green’s work.
