When You Have to Say Goodbye by Penny Steinke is a poignant book that chronicles the author's grief and coming to terms with the loss of her mom. Penny shows how she put down her thoughts on paper and how journaling her sorrow actually helped her get over the grief. Everyone experiences grief and pain when they lose a loved one and it is normal. Her words are real, tangible, and relatable, and the thoughts shared in the book are similar to what anyone who is healing from the loss of a loved one or still grieving would think.
When You Have to Say Goodbye is a good tool for all those readers who are mourning and will give them ideas on how to come to terms with their loss and get over it. It will help them find their peace by accepting what has happened and dealing with their loss with dignity. She also helps them hold on to the memories in a good way by journaling. The tips given are therapeutic and cathartic to readers who are mourning the loss of a loved one. The book is a good way to perceive loss and give it a different meaning altogether. The author's thoughts are heartbreaking and this would definitely be a good book to give to anyone who is grieving. I like the way Penny Steinke has handled the topic. It is unique and different and not the usual way in which mourning and grieving are dealt with and that makes the book engaging.
