Can you do the right thing?
Ray wasn’t the same when he returned from a tour in Iraq. His daughter Lindy needed to escape her drug addicted mother. Together the two escaped to the forest of Oregon. They enjoyed their life there even though they were hiding from the world.
When Lindy was spotted, Jess Villareal and her fellow police officers were called to bring the family in. Jess rarely broke rules but she strongly felt the father and daughter should be allowed to stay together. She fought the officials to keep the father and daughter family intact.
Jennie Shortridge is a talented author. She handled this story in a sensitive manner. There are many veterans coming home, and they are different. She shines a light on the need to offer compassion and assistance to our military. This story is intense. Emotions run strong. The characters are well developed. The depth of the main characters was incredible. The realness of Jess’s day to day struggle really struck a chord with me. I hope the author writes a sequel. This is a must read.
