People who laugh tend to live longer. Not only that, but in over 40 years of marriage counseling, I have never seen a couple headed toward divorce who remembered how to have fun and laugh together. There is an old saying that laughter is good medicine, which shows us that it is essential to find things to laugh at. Sharon and Kierra Linen know what is funny. In What’s This Foolishness? they have gathered many sayings that will keep you in stitches. If you can read this book and not laugh, you need to see a psychologist about your deep depression. Laughter also helps relieve non-clinical depression. Finding humor in everyday objects is one of the joys of life. For instance, why does lemonade use artificial flavoring while dishwashing soap uses real lemons? Another example that I enjoyed is, “Is it true that cannibals don’t eat clowns because they taste funny?”
With all the stress and the lingering issues with COVID-19, we all need a good laugh or two. Sharon and Kierra Linen give the reader over three hundred laughs in their book What’s This Foolishness? These witty sayings were collected while Sharon was an administrator in the school district of Charleston, SC. A few of these sayings were posted on her office wall, some were collected from students, while others came from different sources. Many people asked her to put these sayings in book form and I am glad she has published them. This book will bring joy and laughter to all who read it. Now is the time to sit back, relax, and laugh your way into peace.
