In What He Left Behind by Benjamin Bradley, fifteen years earlier, friends ventured into the woods after graduation. A tragic incident occurred, and Jack Sawyer left Oak Hill without bidding farewell to Grace Bingham. Grace believed Jack was lost to her forever, but he returned to town to support his mother in her fight against cancer. When a female body was discovered, Grace—now a detective—was called to investigate. This was Grace's first murder investigation, and Mayor Cliff Rice suggested that Jack assist her and her team with the case. Cliff, Grace, and Jack had been friends before Jack's departure fifteen years ago. The victim's identity connected Grace and Jack to an old case from years before, but a powerful family would go to great lengths to protect their secrets.
