Wetzel by Richard Fleming is a complex, yet thrilling historical novel that follows the life of a compelling character that emerged towards the end of the Revolutionary War, a hunter and a fierce fighter, Lewis Wetzel. He played an invaluable role in the war between the Indian Nations and the settlers in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. This book takes readers on Wetzel's adventures, demonstrating his bravery in war, and his cunning. The reader is introduced to his conflict with the Indians which endured after the war as the Indians pursued him to get their revenge. This is a well-crafted story that brilliantly showcases the conflict between the Native Americans and the frontiersmen, and the role that Wetzel played in the whole fray.
Richard Fleming’s story is one that will transport readers to exciting moments in history and the power of his prose brings the action to life, giving the reader the feeling of actually taking part in the conflict.
