When I read the blurb of Welcome to Parkview by Brian Paone, I thought this would be just another horror novel based on It by Stephen King, but, boy, was I surprised! At first, I also thought that this was a collection of short stories that would have no connection with each other and that every short story would be a separate one, but I was surprised once again. I was also surprised to find that every story was connected with the others, how one character from one story became the center of another. I thoroughly enjoyed this fact and the amazing character development.
Parkview is not your random town; here, things work on a more sinister level. The deeds of the past come to haunt the future generations and the sins of the present will not leave the townspeople alone. This is a town where the supernatural happens, where the supernatural forces live, breathe and tussle with the people of Parkview. The ones who sin and the ones who have nothing that differentiates them. They are all flesh and blood and no one is safe in Parkview!
Welcome to Parkview by Brian Paone and Fear Street by R.L. Stine are somewhat similar in being towns where the supernatural happens, but one thing that sets Parkview apart and makes it far more terrifying is the fact that it seemed almost too real at times. The characters felt real, their stories felt real, and the danger around them felt too realistic at times. I was thoroughly terrified and thoroughly fascinated. This is another brilliant piece of writing from Paone!
