“These short stories touch upon human virtues and vices, identity, alternative universes, space travel, philosophy, death and afterlife, and much more.” In Money Tree, a man dealing with financial hardship discovers a surprising source of wealth that will influence him to make both good and bad choices. Set in the distant future, The Sapien Zoo is about a group of 'Humai' or highly evolved humans visiting a unique zoo that shows how people used to live. It’s a somewhat satirical view on our technology and information-driven world today. I’m intrigued by The System Shutdown and The Democr App, a two-part story about a hacker who destabilizes and replaces the current economy and government with his own system of administration. It garners him interesting results, consequences, and retaliation.
Even though We Are All In This Together (A Collection of 13 Short Stories) by N.A. Turner is fantastical in nature, it easily reflects on a number of universal themes which will definitely resonate with readers. Moreover, the contemporary surrealistic illustrations by Jonat Deelstra-which are simply fascinating to look at-visually add an impressive layer of depth to the stories. From the literary drama in the galaxy of The Planets’ Party to another two-part story, The Earth’s End and The First Settlement, where former Earthlings are determined to defend their home on Mars from an oppressive organization, there is something for everyone in We Are All In This Together. Simply put, this is a commendable collaboration from Turner and Deelstra. A solid read.
