In Wally’s Misadventure by Chrys Wimer, Wally the Raccoon finds himself searching for friends to go on an adventure with since his chores were all done. He asked some of his friends but they were all very busy with things that seemed to be a bit more important than going on an adventure with Wally. Feeling dismissed and upset, Wally runs off so no one can see him crying and then realizes he has run a little too far. His parents had warned him of several dangers lurking around but Wally’s curiosity gets the better of him. Full of curiosity, he goes further and encounters some of the frightening things his parents had mentioned. Should he have listened to his parents' warnings? What will Wally find as he ventures further away from his home? Will he find his way back home before dark?
I loved Wally’s Misadventure by Chrys Wimer! The plot is well developed, evenly paced and easy for anyone to follow and enjoy. The characters are fun and entertaining as Wally goes from friend to friend looking for an adventure. I love how Wimer explains the rules Wally’s parents had taught him and how he reflected on them as he continued on the adventure. The illustrations are bright, colorful and allow the young reader to be carried along in the story. I recommend Wally’s Misadventure to anyone who has children who like to read or be read to because this is the kind of story that even adults will enjoy while reading to kids.
