Wake Me from the Nightmare by R. Jade McAuliffe is much more than a typical self-help guide. This book shares the first-hand experience of what life is like before, during and after a loved one’s suicide. McAuliffe expresses how important it is to understand that those left behind know that they are not at fault; it was the lost loved one’s choice. Grief, while painful, is one of the hardest things to overcome but with the help of Wake Me from the Nightmare, it is possible to manage the pain and learn to live with the emotional scars left behind. McAuliffe’s own experiences serve as an insightful tool that will give hope to those who feel there is no hope left.
Wake Me from the Nightmare by R. Jade McAuliffe is a self-help book that definitely belongs in the hands of those that have attempted or lost a loved one via suicide. McAuliffe’s own personal experiences will help the reader understand that they truly are not alone and that help and healing are to be found. I loved that Wake Me from the Nightmare is written from the perspective of a person who has not only been through the grief of a loved one’s suicide but almost inflicted that pain through her own attempt. I recommend Wake Me from the Nightmare to anyone who is or knows someone who is trying to cope with the depression caused by a loved one’s suicide. McAuliffe has first-hand knowledge that would be useful to anyone who feels that they have no other options.
