Curtain up! In Waiting in the Wings: How to Launch Your Performing Career on Broadway and Beyond, actress and author Tiffany Haas, joined by author Jenna Glatzer, gives us a peek into the world of theater performance. This book is a comprehensive guide to creating a career in the competitive world of performing, whether you are a novice or a seasoned professional actor.
I enjoyed Waiting in the Wings because I have worked as an actor in the theater and beyond. It provided valuable tips on auditions, which are important for any thespian. As such, I could relate to Haas and Glatzer’s words of wisdom about this aspect of landing a role. I also dreamed of working on Broadway, so I was very interested in the book’s subject matter, and its coverage of the significance of having a solid reputation.
From finding a reliable agent to the value of a personal support system for success, Tiffany Haas’s honesty in the lessons learned during training as an opera and musical theater student in college, and the challenging process of preparing for admission was a tonic. The advice was something I wished I had known before. The rest of Waiting in the Wings: How to Launch Your Performing Career on Broadway and Beyond was very practical. Without giving too much away, passion is the core of the message. Written in a conversational style, yet with a useful index for quick reference, I would reread this book from cover to cover.
