Vampire World by Rich Douglas is a vampire story with a difference. Marissa and her boyfriend Rob are going on a date, but people are disappearing; they are abducted by others dressed as vampires. Rob and Marissa head for the forest, but a brick thrown through their car window leads to Rob disappearing into the trees - he is never seen again. Marissa is attacked and passes out, waking up in a completely different world. Marissa is now a vampire known as Janice, who is adopted by Mr FreeCut. From here her life alters drastically. She is being stalked by a mysterious messenger who is leading her towards the truth about her past. In the meantime, she meets and falls in love with Brett, learns how to play fireball and gets a job - all the while trying to fight off members of the TriFang Organization who are after her human blood. Things come to a head when her family and friends are targeted by Rob, a member of the organization, as she learns the truth about who she is and prepares to return to Earth.
I only have one thing to say about Rich Douglas' Vampire World - I loved it! It was refreshing to read a vampire story with a difference. It is a well-crafted novel, one that drew me in all the way, so much so that I was disappointed when it ended but was relieved to know there is a sequel. Mr Douglas has put a lot of thought into this story, although some of the descriptions may make some readers cringe! I look forward to reading the next instalment and following Marissa/Janice and Brett on their journey to Earth.
