Vahlaron by Jimmy Allen is the story of magical beings and creatures that once were very much a part of the human realm, but the greed, jealousies, and warmongering of humanity drove the Celtlandians to create Vahlaron and shroud it in magic to hide its existence. With a land free of humans, the creatures and beings live in peace and freedom; from dragons to fairies, they are watched over by the mighty magic of the Celtlandians. But the inevitable finally happens, and two humans wash ashore in a shipwreck. Katherine is found half dead and taken to the home of the Celtlandians, but her husband, Lucas, is missing and presumed dead. It has the whole land busting at the seams with curiosity, for none but the Celtlandians know the nature of humans. Their arrival puts to the test a vow the Celtlandians have taken to protect Vahlaron and the inhabitants at any cost.

Vahlaron is an enchanting story - no pun intended - and I enjoyed it. With well developed characters and a solid plot, it was easy to get lost in. It had many of the legendary beings and creatures I've grown up hearing about, and some I haven't, but most were familiar to me, and it was nice to read about them in a story that was written for an audience a bit older than I've seen previously. There were a couple of surprises that I did not expect, and I thought they made the story more true to that world, and the inhabitants. The descriptive and colorful world is also what you would expect for creatures and beings with such magical powers, and the author did not scrimp on the sights, smells, and colors. I recommend this book to anyone who loves refreshing stories of the magical beings of lore and legends.

I absolutely loved this retelling of the magical creatures that we all grew up hearing stories about. It is an easy read, not full of so much detail that the reader gets bored. I completely recommend this to anyone who loves Fantasy writing!
