Unlikely Soldiers Book Two: Secrets and Lies by Deb McEwan is the story of Mouse and Guy, two army officials with different responsibilities. Since they fell in love, things have changed. Mouse got a promotion and she is happy with her new role in the army. However, things are changing for the worse now. They are too far apart; the Falklands War is getting serious and the distance is becoming hard on their relationship. There is a perilous vendetta against them and there are some things that are far too strong for them to cope with. Can their love survive all this, as well as the distance between them? Or will their love crumble and they fall apart?
The story of Guy and Mouse was good, entertaining, and at times, sweat inducing. I liked the thrill and I loved reading about all the inside military action. We only see what is happening in front of us; we never get to see the inside dynamics of the Armed Forces. I also liked the relationship between Guy and Mouse. They had a strong connection. They mostly acted as a team and a couple. Mouse was not the little woman in their relationship and Guy treated her with respect, despite the fact that an army man is usually portrayed as a controlling alpha male whose word is final. I also liked the way the novel was written, the word choices were appropriate, and there was no unnecessary information or description. Plus, it was very easy and quick to read. It was really good!
