K.L. Frase lives in Seattle with her husband, two daughters, a son-in-law, two grandchildren, and and three cats. As such, her life is generally busy taking care of the home and those living there. She loves to read a wide range of stories in her free time. But sometimes, a story comes into her mind which almost seems to write itself, even if it is mainly during nighttime hours when everyone else is asleep. Similar to the three Kimjen's Choice books, she wrote UnKnown Lands for the happiness and contentment each brought her. Once each story is done, her hope in sharing them is that they might provide a similar enjoyment to others.

The story K. L. Frase tells in her novel UnKnown Lands is special, which means it requires a special protagonist, too - a book. His name is ESARF (or better, the Great Magnificent ESARF) and, as a book, he is very unusual. He has developed the ability to think and grow his eyes, ears, wings, and nose. Also, he has the faculty to become invisible and perform spells. When his master and his evil lover attempt to hurt a baby girl, ESARF comes to the rescue, helped by a ghost, his friend. They take the girl and her mother to the UnKnown Lands, a place where ESARF will try to help more people and learn valuable lessons.
The first thing that appealed to me as an eager reader is that the main character of UnKnown Lands is a book. This was enough to arouse my interest in the whole story, but as soon as I started reading, I realized K. L.Frase had more in mind and that UnKnown Lands conveys a powerful (I would like to say magical) message. Although it refers to imaginary events, ESARF's story makes you think about ethics and moral behaviors. It stresses the fact that, at times, good intentions cause bad results and that, nonetheless, it is still better to try than to do nothing. We are all invited to apply these suggestions in our daily life, and I commend Frase for bringing them to our attention. They are evergreen values that we need to remember, at least from time to time.
