Grumpy the Iguana and the Green Parrot are best friends. One day they decide to go fishing on a boat called the Pardon Me. They enjoy their time at sea together, casting their lines and hoping for a big catch. Suddenly a big red fish approaches and Grumpy the Iguana reels it in while the Green Parrot casts his net to catch it. Once on deck, the big red fish doesn’t move. Grumpy the Iguana and the Green Parrot are disappointed to discover that what they really caught was a big red balloon. It’s disappointing, yes, but, as the Green Parrot points out: “This red balloon is dangerous to all sea life. Thank goodness WE caught it and saved a fish from eating it for breakfast.” Their fishing adventure continues when they rescue a Giant Sea Turtle who’s injured and needs their help.
Susan Marie Chapman’s picture book story, Two If By Sea (A Grumpy the Iguana and Green Parrot series Book 3), is a fun story about friendship, adventure, and, in the midst of some fun, helping to save some sea life. The plot follows the two best friends' adventures trying to fish at sea but takes a tangent when their catch, which isn’t a fish, becomes a lesson in the dangers of balloons to sea life. They have another rescue mission ahead and the plot thickens as they help an injured turtle which turns around and helps them find their way back home. Delightful illustrations by Natalia Loseva add to the message. A great story to teach young readers a little bit about sea life, protecting the sea world, and working and having fun together.
