Turtle Island by Dave Henry is a stunning fantasy novel about a family of four. The Masters family was on vacation when their dad, Don, got lost and had to turn into the Ted Williams Tunnel. The tunnel takes them through a portal to Turtle Island, an alternate universe version of America. The family learns that they are Equivalents, meaning that their lineage is the same on Turtle Island and in America. However, their Turtle Island versions of themselves are stuck up, mean, controlling dictators. A few other Equivalents have a plan to change the two Masters families, so that the nice Masters family will take over and control Turtle Island. But then things go wrong and the Masters family is captured and has to compete in the Survival Games. Will the Masters family win, or will they be shipped off to prison?

I really, really enjoyed reading Turtle Island by Dave Henry. The book is very well written and descriptive, full of funny parts that made me laugh out loud. The book is also full of action and suspense that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat, wanting to know what comes next. I was hooked by the first page, and I never wanted to put the book down. It's a real page turner. The book is full of likeable characters, because they are kind and brave. The author clearly put a lot of time into writing this, and comes up with funny names for things on Turtle Island, like 'encased scrap meat' instead of 'hot dogs.' I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.
