Part mystery, part medical fiction, Truth Unveiled by Stephanie Kreml is an impressive start to the Dr. Samantha Jenkins Mysteries series. It follows the suspicious death of a recovering addict and the search for an elusive killer. Samantha “Sam” Jenkins is dreading taking part in her friend’s upcoming nuptials. Still struggling to move on from a crushing breakup, she decides to support her friend, Claire, regardless. While the bridal party involved in the wedding is staying at a quaint bed-and-breakfast, Claire’s brother, Brad, dies suddenly. While his death could easily be ruled as a result of natural causes, Claire is not convinced. She enlists Sam’s help to review the cause of his death. As the team involved in investigating the death searches for the truth, new revelations emerge and their list of suspects continues to change.
Stephanie Kreml’s medical knowledge shows as she explores Sam’s experiences in the clinic where she works. Beyond her encounters with different patients and the challenges she faces as a medical professional, the novel also includes her background, relationship with her parents, love life, and her growth which help make her an interesting and rounded main character. The plot is wonderfully engaging as it shifts focus from one suspect to another. Other tragic events follow Brad’s death which introduces new, intriguing sub-plots to the novel. The book’s end is satisfying and includes explanations for other mysterious and unnerving events that happen in the novel. Truth Unveiled by Stephanie Kreml is a compelling novel with unexpected turns and fascinating characters that fans of mystery novels will love.
