Elizabeth Emerson Hancock captures the essence of growing up in Eastern Kentucky. As you move west along the Ohio River, there are subtle cultural changes but some things stay the same. Rarely is there a Kentuckian that does not bleed blue, Wildcat blue, except those traitors that support that red college team (name won’t be mentioned). Life centers on going to church and Sunday School. Regardless of your denomination, you put on your Sunday- go-to-meeting clothes and sing “Amazing Grace.”
You grow up just assuming it is the same around the world and are shocked when you find out that not everyone lives that way. I should know; I,too, grew up in Kentucky. It is an honor to review and highly recommend Trespassers Will Be Baptized by Elizabeth Emerson Hancock.
This is a high quality read by a fellow Kentuckian. Hancock uses humor to capture the essence of being a PK (preacher’s kid). I found myself grinning as I remembered my one and only lemonade stand. You do not get many customers in rural areas. Hancock brings to mind a time when things seemed somehow more innocent, perhaps I was just more naive. The reader will laugh at the antics of Hancock, her sister, and friends. I never found any Guess jeans in the giveaway box, but there were other items… I will be watching for more books by this author. Ms. Hancock, thank you for taking me back.
