Transmissions by Michael Golvach is a brooding, mysterious, and macabre novel interspersed with moments of passion and unthinkable dangers. We have two lovers, Benjamin and Amelie, who have loved each other for as long as they can remember. But time and fate have their ways of testing true love, and after years of separation, they are about to find each other again. Amelie is now married to George, a boor and violent philanderer who is inconsiderate of her feelings, and she is not thrilled with George’s proclivities toward trying the perverse and the unorthodox. As the sum of the company that he keeps, George’s two friends, Lawrence and Shannon, are no better. As Benjamin begins to find his way back into Amelie’s life and gets to know the man who won her heart, he will come to realize that the world he dreams of living in with Amelie is far different from reality. The only thing that he is certain of is that he will try to win her back.
Strangely enough, Transmissions also has a good sense of humor, but this is sometimes overshadowed by the intense, poetic narrative. It is a touching tale, but creepy at the same time. The horrors are real. The type of horrors present here are not created by creatures beyond our comprehension, but by humans who fall into that existential premise that hell is other people. You can say that this novel is more than just a paranormal romance; the brilliance of the novel comes from Michael Golvach’s narration and from its philosophical musings that you rarely find in the romance-paranormal genre. Reading Transmissions allows you to experience the heightened effects of the book from the beginning until how it turns out. Despite its paranormal leanings, you will strongly believe in Benjamin’s fantastic motivations to rescue Amelie.
