Total Rethink: Why Entrepreneurs Should Act like Revolutionaries by David McCourt is a book for forward-thinking professionals, and although it is written for entrepreneurs, it has lessons for everyone who wants make changes, improve their standard of life, or work their way quickly towards success. The book opens with a powerful thought, one that intersects with Stephen Covey's "Start with the end" in mind. When the author speaks about visualizing the future, he cautions that people, in many walks of life, tend to live in the present, working their way with a lot of caution into the future, and this is the category that doesn't make much progress. Themes in this book include the power of visualizing the future, the concept of bottom-up revolution, focusing on strengths and building on these, radical ways of getting paid, telling one's story to the world, mentorship, and a lot more.
This book offered me lots of lessons and it is interesting how the author effortlessly weaves real life situations and personal stories into the message of the book, allowing readers to look at life from a unique and new perspective. I particularly enjoyed chapter six where he talks about working on our strengths. He makes a fascinating observation: "The paradox here is that when you are young everybody tells you to 'work on your weaknesses," but those weaknesses, almost by definition, can only be improved by small, incremental amounts, while you can improve upon your natural strengths almost infinitely if you go about it the right way." David McCourt is a brilliant writer and he uses a popular, conversational style that is engaging and that makes the book very interesting. It is filled with insight, strategies for growth, and tools that will change the way we live and work. Total Rethink: Why Entrepreneurs Should Act like Revolutionaries is one of the best business books I have read in a long time and it offers great lessons on personal and business transformation.
