All Batina the fairy wants is for her cheer team to make the annual talent show. With her two friends, Jasmine and Lulu, Batina is sure that their performance will beat Bridget and her dance team. Her world is turned upside down, however, when she finds a rare caticorn kitten in the bushes by her house. Naming the creature Enamelina, Batina soon realizes just how much responsibility it is to have a pet. She can tell that the caticorn misses her mother, so she makes posters in hopes of finding the mother. Meanwhile, despite being late for the auditions, Batina and her two friends make the list of performers for the talent show. Tooth Fairy Day comes, and Batina is excited not only for the talent show but because she will be collecting a tooth today from a little girl named Olivia. Not wanting the skittish caticorn to accompany her on the trip, she tries asking her friend Jolene if she could watch her, but the other fairy was angry she came late to the auditions. Jealous of Batina and her friends, Jolene tells her no and slams the door in her face. Taking Enamelina with her, Batina collected the tooth and returned just in time before the clouds got dark and a thunderstorm hit. Upon returning, she saw that many of the other fairies hadn’t returned yet. Jasmine had yet to return, and two of Bridget’s girls were still out collecting teeth. Without their team members, neither could perform alone, but maybe they could put aside their differences and make it work. Will the girls put their rivalry aside, or will both teams be sitting out for the talent show?

I thought Tooth Fairy Day Celebration by Denise Ditto was a really fun read. I liked the main character Batina. She was relatable and well written, as were the supporting characters in the tale. I like how the author created a whole tooth fairy world named creatively Brushelot. I also liked how she created an animal that was half-cat and half-unicorn and called it a caticorn. It’s a fun and uplifting story with amazing illustrations that fit perfectly with the storyline. Overall, I think Denise Ditto and illustrator Gabhor Utomo have done an excellent job bringing this tale to life. I look forward to reading more Tooth Collector Tales in the future.

The story features Batina and her fairy friends, all of whom are waiting excitedly for the upcoming Tooth Fairy Day Celebration in the kingdom of Brushelot. However, Batina might miss the auditions owing to her recent acquisition of a pet, Enamelina, the little caticorn whom Batina had found hiding under the bushes and promptly adopted, engages in frivolous activities daily. When Enamelina’s antics cause Bridget to suffer a minor accident, things go south. In the meantime, a dark storm gathers, which might cause the cancellation of their most awaited ceremony. What happens when half the participants cannot reach the auditorium in time?

With colorful, elegant fonts and bite-sized chapters, Tooth Fairy Day Celebration is a perfect book for a young audience. The story flowed at a swift pace, keeping in mind children’s short attention span. Utomo’s lovely illustrations showing the cheerful fairies and the cute caticorn were pleasing to the eye. I loved Denise Ditto’s clever use of teeth-related words while constructing the fairy world and its inhabitants, such as Enamelina, Brushelot, and Doctor Jawbone. The story is educational as well. For example, when the Tooth Inspector proclaims a child’s tooth as well-brushed, it emphasizes how important oral hygiene is. However, more significant are the moral lessons Ditto delivers in her book. The events in Batina’s life highlight the value of friendship. Through Batina and Bridget’s example, Ditto shows how teamwork goes a long way to achieving success.
