Trout fish Toby and Gus were two completely different fish as regards their attitude and personality, but they were still friends. When one was in trouble, or headed near trouble, the other would warn him to keep safe. With so many fishermen in the area, and Friday nights being fish fry nights, it was very important to stay in safe places throughout the lake.
One day Gus noticed that Toby wasn’t feeling so well, and knew he must get him to the Fountain of Youth in order to be healed. But this was a long and dangerous journey and Gus wasn’t sure he would succeed in getting Toby there. What do you think happened? Did these two trout friends start on their journey, or did they just give up because of the dangers?
I found this to be a wonderful heartwarming story talking about the difficulties and struggles in accepting life’s adjustments. The characters of Toby and Gus are well-developed and very likeable. True friendship is a lesson well taught, showing young readers that real friends stay with you through the good and bad times. This funny, humorous story with a touch of magic and suspense will capture the interest of readers. The writing of the story is simple enough for a young child to understand and interesting enough for any age to read and enjoy.
I recommend this book for any child’s library as well as any school and public library. Stories like this one that teach valuable life lessons to children are well worth reading.
