Time's Daughter by Jo Anne Barnes is a paranormal romance with plenty of twists to make you hold your breath until the end. Christina is a school teacher when the unthinkable happens. She is on the way to a funeral when she is suddenly and shockingly transported to 1875 in the body and life of her ancestor, who happens to be her complete doppelganger. Forced to act as the governess of sweet little Marjorie, Christina realizes she is well and truly stuck. However, when sparks start to fly between her and Rainer Thorpe (Marjorie’s father), Christina is conflicted. She wants to go back to the future but the mystery of the past and Rainer has a hold on her. What is truly happening to Rainer? Why is his brother Eli so suspicious? Is it even possible for Christina to get back to the future? Does she even want to go back?
Electrifying and packed full of action, Time’s Daughter is a fantastic story from start to finish. There is hardly a moment where the story stalls. Author Jo Anne Barnes takes the time travel trope and makes it even more exciting with a splash of romance, paranormal, and suspense. The narrative is intriguing yet thrilling at the same time. Christina is a reliable protagonist. She is open about her feelings; she understands her predicament and is ready to deal with it. Christina’s connection with Rainer is sizzling, to say the least. They have an instant connection without it being too fast; they get closer gradually and I loved that. The author does touch on topics such as mental illness and the need for a close family. I was fascinated by what Christina and Rainer would do about their relationship as each belongs to a different century. But the ending is super satisfying. I loved it!
