Traveling through time has become a norm for the Holloway girls who can monitor the time jumps with their chronometers. However, a sudden unscheduled time jump transports Summer Holloway to 1692 Salem, just before the witch-hunting frenzy had started. In a parallel storyline, Sydney Monaco, a private detective, travels to present-day Salem. She intends to show the Celtic amulet she had discovered in a New England cave to an acclaimed historian. However, the amulet comes to life, transporting her to 1692. After Summer and Sydney cross paths, can they return unscathed from the rage of the Puritan fanatics? In Timeless Treasures, Casi McLean brings together characters from two of her series to create a charming tale.
I adore time travel stories, and this novel appealed to me with its thrilling plot. Casi McLean infused the narrative with a dash of paranormal from the beginning. The mysterious hotel at Salem, with its enigmatic owner and the ghost tours, created an otherworldly aura. The time jump put the characters in the middle of a battlefield, and I waited with bated breath to find out how they would circumvent this ordeal. McLean presented seventeenth-century Salem realistically, complete with the clothing habits and dialects of the period. The heroines’ desperate attempts to speak in a dated language and the old-timers’ reactions to modern-day outfits and gadgets provided some relief from the tension. With a plot filled with adventure, women's solidarity, and a slight hint of romance, Timeless Treasures captured my heart. I recommend it to those who have enjoyed Michael Crichton’s Timeline or Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series.
