Timecrack by William Long is an adventure story where two brothers are on a journey to find their parents in a whole new world. Richard and Archie weren’t expecting their life to turn this way. Being sons of an archaeologist isn’t as exciting as it seems to the rest of the world, but the brothers are happy with what they have. However, when their parents are transported to another world through a timecrack, they are beside themselves with worry. To make matters worse, Archie and Richard come across another timecrack that takes them to the same place their parents are. Joined by their uncle, Professor Strawbridge, and tutor Marjorie, they need to find their parents and they need to do it fast. They need to get out of this place before it is too late and they fall in the hands of all the wrong people. What will happen to them?
Fast-paced, richly detailed, and well-developed, this children’s story will be loved by readers of all ages. This is a book that transcends genre and age. Richard and Archie are two very likable characters. They are smart, responsible, and surprisingly calm given their condition. The addition of their uncle and tutor was great; however, it was Richard who drew me into the story. His “special ability” makes him unique and the way he tackles the situation is handled well. This is a unique concept and William Long executed it well. It is an immersive story, one that will have your child glued to the book and not wanting to let go. And that is the best experience for anyone who loves to read.
