There's Something About Marty (A Working Stiffs Mystery Book 3) by Wendy Delaney is the third mystery in this series. When Marty McCutcheon dies, everyone suspects his young widow since this is her third husband to die. Even Deputy Coroner Charmaine “Char” Digby is convinced they have a black widow on their hands. That is, right up until Victoria McCutcheon asks Char to solve Marty's murder. Why would Victoria ask Char to dig into Marty’s death if she is his murderer? Char wonders if there is more to this murder than meets the eye. Could someone else be setting Victoria up, knowing the police would look at her first when it came time to line up suspects in her husband’s death? There’s little evidence, so Char has to rely on her gut feelings and intuition in order to solve this case. Hopefully before she steps into the line of fire and the killer tries murdering again...

There's Something About Marty is a fun murder mystery that is well-written and well-executed. I liked the balance that Wendy Delaney was able to create. There were just enough clues to keep me interested (and not totally surprised when the killer was revealed), but not so many that I figured out what was going on until the very end of the story. That isn’t always an easy feat to do, but Delaney did it masterfully. I enjoyed Char’s character and trusted her instincts in this story. If she believed a character, I did, too. But if she still thought there was something else going on, I couldn't wait to read more.

There's Something About Marty: A Working Stiffs Mystery, Book 3 is a cozy murder mystery written by Wendy Delaney. While this is the third book in Delaney's Working Stiffs series starring amateur sleuth Charmaine Digby, the author provides enough background information for new readers to enjoy this book on its own. Digby is working at the Chimacan County Coroner's Office, and she's been asked by her boss Frankie Rickard, the County Prosecutor, to touch base with Darlene McCutcheon regarding the recent and sudden death of her ex-husband, Marty. While Dr. Cardinale, who had attended the stricken man when he was brought to the emergency room, diagnosed his death as due to cardiac arrest stemming from cardiovascular disease, Darlene felt it important to share her suspicions regarding the events that led up to his sudden illness and ensuing death. Marty had died on his birthday after eating a celebratory dinner and getting violently ill immediately afterwards. While Darlene's suspicions were aimed at the deceased's new younger wife, Victoria, whose three husbands had all died suddenly and left her a fairly wealthy widow, there were any number of possible reasons for his death and a number of suspects for Digby to investigate.

Wendy Delaney's murder mystery, There's Something About Marty: A Working Stiffs Mystery, Book 3, is a light and frothy, humorous cozy mystery set on Washington State's Olympic Peninsula. The author offers plenty of red herrings and scads of gossip and innuendo for the reader and her plucky amateur sleuth to puzzle over. The Olympic Peninsula is one of my favorite travel destinations, and I enjoyed searching the internet for each of the locations Delaney describes in her book. There's Something About Marty works quite well as a mystery.

Char’s job working at the courthouse hasn’t been the easiest all the time, but she’s determined to make the most of it. When she’s sent to do a little digging around the death of an elderly and very wealthy member of the community, she’s certain it’s nothing to be concerned about … until the interviews start making her question a whole lot more. Unfortunately, she’s on her own in this investigation because, until she finds evidence, no one will believe her and she can’t seem to find all the evidence without a little bit of questioning, which is making someone more than a little suspicious. But there’s no one to trust when everyone from the man’s own children to his ex-wife and even his best friend are suspects in the crime in There’s Something About Marty: A Working Stiffs Mystery, Book 3 by Wendy Delaney.

This is one of those books where you never know what’s going to come next. You start reading and you think you know who’s behind it and then you find out that there’s something entirely different going on. It’s going to keep you guessing quite a bit and it’s the type of book that you want to keep reading until it’s done. I really liked Char because she seemed to be a very relatable character with flaws (who can’t relate to eating a little more dessert than we should?) and I found myself really interested in other characters like Estelle, Phyllis, Marietta (or Mary Jo) and Marty’s family. There’s Something About Marty is definitely a book I would recommend.
