There's A Monster On My Bed by Margit E. Macchia is about Harvey, who loves his bedroom because it is his space where he can hide and have fun in its nooks and crannies. One thing that makes Harvey feel uncomfortable is the monster that sleeps on his bed at night. He constantly wonders whether it is good or bad to talk to this creature that scares him. The only way to find out is by being brave enough to confront his fear, which Harvey did. To his surprise, the monster turned out to be quite friendly and kind. They became good friends and they played in all the hiding places Harvey had been enjoying until both of them became tired and sleepy. As the monster climbs into bed and sleeps under the sheet, Harvey snuggles next to its feet. He is finally happy, not only with his room and his bed but especially with his new monster friend who sleeps on it and who he's not afraid of anymore.

The most attractive feature of There's A Monster On My Bed by Margit E Macchia is the stunning and charming illustrations by Olga Scherbakova that will certainly capture the attention of even the youngest reader. It even includes a little creature profile lurking in the pages as a bonus. It's the pictures that tell us the whole story. The use of the word "monster" is almost synonymous with the fear of the unknown. Getting to know your fears encourages you to be courageous, and as you face them and look closely, you will discover what it is like to know, feel and act with empathy. You begin to see and acknowledge the nature of your fears, which makes for understanding them with less anxiety and judgment, especially if the monster looks different to you. This book will not only entertain children but also teach them the importance of being brave and confronting their fears so that one day they will be able to overcome them. This is a highly recommended read-along book for beginning readers or children aged 2 to 5 years old.
