Author Biography

• At 17 months old, she was abandoned in a garage.
• By age-2, she was adopted.
• By age-7, she had been molested.
• By age-14, her adopted mother had died.
• By age-15, her adopted father died.
• By age-17, she had been psychologically, emotionally and physically abused by a legal guardian--even starved.
• For the next 25 years, she suffered silently from deep, manic depression and anxiety.

This is the harrowing life journey of Crystal M. Adair, and it is detailed in her debut masterwork, “Therapy: A Memoir Novella by Crystal M. Adair”. Crystal was born in Washington, DC and was educated in the city's public schools. In high school, she starred on B.E.T.'s nationally-syndicated Teen Summit, where she interviewed celebrity guests, hosted segments, and voiced her opinions on the plights and achievements of young, black America.

Subsequently, Crystal graduated summa cum laude from Clark Atlanta University with a B.A. in Mass Media Arts, having been selected as a senior to co-host the school's first-ever news program, CAU News Center. Unfortunately, Crystal's dreams of on-air reporting never panned out, but she found her next passion in urban classrooms.

Crystal has taught English, Public Speaking and Theater Arts to K-12 and college students for more than 17 years. This impassioned educator is also a screenwriter, a playwright, a director, a filmmaker, a motivational speaker, an author, and a mother. Her new writing and publishing company, Jalen Christopher Press, is even named for her zany, talented and precocious 10-year old son.

Therapy: A Memoir Novella by Crystal M. Adair is a most unusual book. Some may even find it difficult to read, not so much for the graphic, often heartbreaking content, but because it occasionally borders on poetry in reflective prose. It's very introspective, and yet, as the book draws to a close, some of the profound observations on life that Crystal M. Adair makes apply to everyone everywhere.

"I've always lived my life thinking that where I wanted to be was somehow better than where I was right now, when in truth, there is perfection in this very moment. We are constantly being perfected by our experiences––made bolder, stronger, wiser, and more authentic," writes Crystal, and who of us cannot identify with the truth of her words: "We are constantly being perfected by our experiences"! Yes, and by looking at life this way, the messages delivered by the author in what is really a personal journal, Therapy can and does provide hope for all who have suffered along the way to finding themselves and self-fulfillment.

After her very rough beginnings, Crystal M. Adair is today a teacher and a dynamic motivational speaker. You can Google her and it will bring up her impressive bio. When you read Therapy, you'll be even more impressed by who this woman has become. But if there's one person who stands out in this novella, and to whom Crystal pays the greatest homage, it's Bernie, the woman who adopted her and her siblings when they had been abandoned. Thankfully, Bernie, along with God, was Crystal's voice in the dark hours.

Must read! This book is amazingly therapeutic.

This book is amazingly therapeutic. It is an open, honest look into the life, struggles and triumphs of one woman, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a mother. Through her strength and integrity she details some of the most intimate events of her life. She captures them in such a vivid and descriptive tone that you feel the emotion of her story and have clear images of the scenes unfolding before you. This testimony will bless you.

Her style of writing made me Invision every scene. What a courageous act to put her 'therapy' in writing. I couldn't put the book down. I was inspired and felt a bit stronger when I was finished.

Amazing!

Sometimes you never know what a person is going through. This is a journey through pain to come out on the other side with clarity and peace. Vivid writing puts the events in the room with you and takes you on a roller coaster of emotions.

Going to be 2017's Best Seller. It is a MUST to read this book!!!!!!!!!!!!

Powerful...Insightful...Eye-Opening...Authentic...Real.

Those are the best words I can use to describe this book. The length of the book, itself was perfect. She didn't leave anything out but made me want to know more. It was sweet, and straight to the point but made me think about my own life choices, present and past. I loved the language that the author used. You could tell that she wasn't trying to change her speech for the reader and just truly being herself so you could truly understand who she was as a person and experience her journey through her eyes. The book overall touched me knowing that someone could go through all these trials and tribulations and still land on top spiritually. Nothing was sugar coded in this book. She made no judgement on those who hurt her and she was open to the judgement that could possibly be placed upon her. I'm sure this book was "therapy" for Ms. Adair but it can MOST DEFINITELY be therapeutic for any reader. I say this book is a conversation piece to start the dialogue in the African American community so that we can stop living our pain in silence and come together to truly heal as a culture and family. This book is honestly for anyone starting for adolescence all the way to adulthood. It was relate-able. It was sincere. It truly touched my heart. Definitely would recommend this book to anyone and I'm definitely going to read it again. Excited for what she writes next! Great Job!

Therapy by Crystal ,Adair is such a riveting, emotional, and spellbinding read. it is a brutally honest story, well written, and so addicting that it compelled, me to finish it and go back and reread. . Her story beckoned the reader to keep on traveling with her through her trials, set backs, and triumphs. Her characters were vivid , and I especially loved Bernie for her 'Ole' time discipline and strict ways that were laced with love. This is an inspirational story to all who have given up hope , that there is an inner strength and love within, from self, from God, and from others that will help you overcome. Thank you, Crystal, for sharing with us this moving story , so beautifully written and candidly told. You are a Lady of Strength and Beauty! Embrace your triumphs!
