I felt both characters grew magically and emotionally throughout the plot and it made me invest in the characters, and really care about what happened to them. The world-building in Theorie of the Storm was intricate and descriptive, which gives the reader an incredibly detailed image of the world around them and further pulls them into the novel. I found that around the halfway point, the story slowed down considerably and there were a few chapters where not much happened, but it was worth waiting for the big conclusion. I would not hesitate to recommend this book and any further books by Jane Delaney.

Kyte was a particularly interesting character to follow and I enjoyed the twists in his story. The world was crafted beautifully and was easy to envision, making you feel at times like you were part of the story yourself. Delaney delivered a strong and consistent magic system that made sense and was easy to understand. I would not hesitate to recommend Theorie of the Storm to fans of the fantasy genre, and those looking for an emotive, character-driven story.

There is so much potential for this story that I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book. I liked the characters and the worldbuilding that went into this novel. The story mainly takes place on the fae side but the reader is left in no doubt as to the state of the world at large. Each character grows and they change from what they were when we first met them. I also enjoy fantasy tales where there is a hint of romance. Jane Delaney has created a series that is sure to keep improving as the story continues. This is a story you won’t regret starting.

Theorie du'Ambrine is worried as her nineteenth birthday approaches, not for fear of the trials, but more so because her powers are not under her control. But meeting the mysterious Kyte takes her on an adventure to the lost magical world of the fae. Prince Taren has not been able to free his kind from the curse that has kept them prisoners in their own world. He could have found an answer to his problems when he discovers the mage. But saving his people will not be as easy as he imagined and the price might be too heavy, not only for him but for Theorie du'Ambrine as well.

I adore stories that are imaginative and that feature complex and likable characters without missing the realism that makes the reader feel as though they were in a familiar world, and this is one of those stories. Jane Delaney creates a young female protagonist that made me forget about sleep; in fact, I had to read some of the parts of the story twice, savoring the beautiful prose, the magical world the author creates, and the depth of her characters. Theorie of the Storm is a triumph of unique world-building, nuanced characters, and a conflict that burns in all the right ways. It is a swoon-worthy fantasy that brings to life a world that has been dead and a tale that presents characters that will make great companions for the reader. And the story has a solid dose of humor I enjoyed.
