Theorie of the Storm is the first entry in the Forgotten Fae series by Jane Delaney, a compelling young adult fantasy with impeccable world-building and a dark reality to explore. Theorie du’Ambrine nears her nineteenth birthday and she is worried. Of course, everyone in Dynas Rhydent is worried when they near the age of the dreadful Trials, which determine whether they earn the magical title of Magi or become slaves to the privileged class. But when she meets Kyte, the charming, humorous villain, everything changes and she finds herself in an adventure that takes her to the realm of the Fae. The Fae Prince, Taren, has already given up hope of liberating his people from the curse placed upon them, but the sudden appearance of the young Mage might be the key to their freedom. Theorie and Kyte are about to be tested in ways none of them ever imagined, and while their lives hang in the balance, they are about to suffer the worst betrayal ever.
This will be a great read for anyone who enjoys stories with sophisticated characters and a world brimming with magic. Theorie of the Storm is well-plotted and the author creates a setting that has strong imagery. The writing is charming and persuasive, and the world-building is so excellently written that it offers a unique sense of adventure that will leave readers impatiently awaiting the next entry in the series. The author’s ability to create compelling scenes, throw in unexpected twists into the plot, and break hearts stands out in this story. Character handling is one of the author’s unique gifts, for she infuses them with emotions that are real, thrusts them into conflicting situations that force them to grow, and breaks them when the reader least expects. Jane Delaney’s work is a masterpiece and I enjoyed every single page of this spellbinding story.
