The Willow At The Edge Of The Wood by Tim DeFelice is a whimsical storybook for kids that will enchant and captivate them. The story revolves around the friendship between Master Cardinal and Sir Robin. They try to find out the answer to a question that must have come into the minds of all the animals in the forest some time or the other. They plan to go deep into the forest that houses some of the greatest minds to see if they can get an answer to this question. The two birds fly into the middle of the forest. They run into Skip and Cornwallis there. Will the two birds be able to find out why the beautiful willow tree at the edge of the forest only whispers?
The story is descriptive and entertaining. The author's word choices make it a magical read. The Old Forest houses a lot of secrets and the animals can speak and understand the creatures around them. The black and white sketches are nicely done so that they complement the story very well, and give pace and movement to the story. Characters come alive within the illustrator's sketches. It's a good bedtime storybook for kids. I found the story captivating, one that will make kids dream and imagine, and also make them adventurous. The friendship between the two birds is endearing. The book, with its detailed descriptions, is very visual and children can see the Old Forest in front of them. A delightful and magical story for young readers.
