Daily life for Eve is filled with intrigue and scandal. What else would you expect for one of Washington D.C.’s most wanted escorts? She spends her time dancing at the Tahiti men’s club and rendezvousing with expensive and elite clients. But life hasn’t always been like this for her. Before Eve, there was April Walsh – writer, mother, and devoted wife. Her marriage and career have always competed but her career won out when she was asked to do a piece on the sex industry. The only way to completely understand this dark world is to become part of it. So, April became Eve and left her family to investigate what happens in such a life. Yet, as time passes, she finds herself enjoying this change. Will she leave her family or return to the life she’s always known and loved?
The Walshes: The Coming of Eve by Joe Clark is a fresh and unique take on a suspenseful romance. I haven’t read anything quite like it. The extreme juxtaposition in lifestyles was almost hard to process. When she is convinced to try amateur night at the local strip club, her eyes and those of readers are opened to this different world. Seeing and feeling that change was exciting and anxiety-inducing. Even I was torn between wanting her to go back to her (seemingly) beautiful life and family and this new version of herself she is coming to love. While it may seem a bit slow at times, the book allows for significant character and story development that is much needed and readers will appreciate this.
