The Twin by Kevin St. Jarre tells the story of the missing years of Jesus’s life before he began his ministry and goes beyond his death. It is told from the translated writings of St Thomas, who meets Jesus as a small boy, then called Yeshua. It is very hard not to give any spoilers here, as the crux of the message is that Yeshua traveled east and learned from the teachings of Buddha. Thus his philosophy is a mixture of faith, reincarnation, and the light we all carry within ourselves. The transcription from Thomas, who later became one of the disciples, is completed with a postscript from his son, explaining how modern-day Christianity has followed a different message taught by the remaining disciples after the crucifixion.

While reading The Twin by Kevin St. Jarre, I was amazed by the content. He skillfully weaves many of the stories from the Christian Bible into context with explanations of the events in Yeshua's life compared to how they have come down to us in the current age. I was amazed at the logic, the reasoning, and the simple telling of a somewhat different tale. This is one of the most unique books I have ever read. I was most impressed with the concept and wonder if it might indeed give way to a new method of interpreting the Bible, which wasn’t written until years after the crucifixion by a group of older men who decided what should be included and what should be excluded. I applaud the author for his insight and imagination. While The Twin is labeled as fiction, it is convincing and thought-provoking nonetheless.
