The Twelve-Step Plan is a romantic comedy written by Erin Brady. Dr. Sadie Rollins has defied all the odds in managing her academic career. She completed her doctorate in marketing when she was only 27 years old and is now on the tenure track at a prestigious private college. If only she could get her personal life managed half as well. Unlike her best friend Charlotte Reed, who's got a husband who cooks, and twin sons, Sadie's relationships with the opposite sex have not been matches made in heaven. Then inspiration strikes as she's channel-surfing and pauses at a telenovela. Her eyes are drawn to the hips of the hot man whose salsa dancing is effortless and oh, so sensual. His name is X, and a quick search on Google shows him in a dazzling assortment of photos and videos. All Sadie has to do to make this man hers is to channel her professional persona and set up a 12-step plan to do just that.
Erin Brady's romantic comedy, The Twelve-Step Plan, is smart and classy and very well-written. Sadie's obsessive interest in a mega-star seems no different than that of the thousands of other adoring fans, but she's convinced she's got that something that's going to make a difference. The Twelve-Step Plan is written in the first-person, no easy feat for an author to sustain, but, in doing so, Brady makes this tale truly Sadie's story and it zings with enthusiasm and zaniness throughout. Sadie's battle of the signs with the pushy and equally determined blond bimbo, Candy Tart, is classic high comedy, and her defiance of her straight-laced Dean at her college will make readers want to cheer. Then there's the romantic tension, which is everything one could ask for in a sophisticated and believable fairy tale romance. I smiled as I read this book, except that is, when I wasn't chuckling. It's a marvelously written and very human story that works on a number of levels. The Twelve-Step Plan is most highly recommended.
