The Travelling Turtle Practises Mindfulness, written and illustrated by Bianca Vickers, is designed to teach children many types of meditation. Meditation helps people be healthy. Different people like different styles of meditation. If you’ve been looking for a style that you will enjoy, this selection of over 20 approaches will help. Each style in this book is named for an animal. Dog meditation means thinking about what or who makes you happy. E.g. family, friends, chocolate, football. Pony meditation means thinking about when have you been brave. E.g. swimming, at the dentist, meeting people. You might even like to do different types of meditation when you are in different situations. The book has stamps to help remind readers of the different meditation approaches.
Bianca Vickers has written and illustrated a series of books about Travelling Turtle. The Travelling Turtle Practises Mindfulness is the second book in this series. This book is told in rhyme with cute illustrations. Mindfulness is only one type of meditation. Mindfulness means focusing on what is happening now. Other types of meditation focus on movement, and thoughts, such as those about joy, gratitude, breathing, sensation, or balance. Turtle doesn’t just travel to different places with his body. He travels with his mind and learns from everyone he meets. Each animal teaches Turtle another meditation technique. Children will enjoy trying these techniques, and discovering which ones help them be more comfortable and happy. This book teaches an open attitude and appreciation for the variety of experiences we can all have.
