The Transformation: GTE 45 by Faren Siminoff is a unique and fascinating glimpse into the future of American society and politics given the current political environment. The Transformation: GTE 45 has been inspired and motivated by the 2016 American presidential campaigns and election. The book imagines a world in which the 2016 election scenario and the environment springing from it continue for the next 50 years. This is where we meet Paul, a Wage Earner; Professor Layla, an independent and bold thinker; and Isaac, the young African-American leader of the Church of the Revealed Saints. All of the characters in the book are living in an era referred to as “The Great Transformation” where true American history is hidden and far-right politicians rule. Interspersed throughout this narrative is the “revealing” history of America which truly gives one a lot to pause and think about. This is a glimpse of America almost 50 years into the future.
The Transformation: GTE 45 by Faren Siminoff is a fascinating dystopian novel that is especially relevant in the current political climate. The arrest of the first female president and the emergence of a far-right rule almost feels like a prelude of things to come. I loved the portrayal of all the characters in the book, but Layla and Isaac especially caught my attention with their strong, independent characters. The writing style is engaging and kept me reading until the end. In the end, this futuristic book truly makes one pause and think about our present, and hopefully shape our futures accordingly. Truly, a fascinating read!
