The Super Sustainables: Facing the Drought by Albin Gielicz and Gonen Yacov is a beautiful book written for children, but one that every grownup needs to read, because to save the earth, every man and woman needs to learn from the kids. With the earth dying, thanks to mankind’s abuses and selfishness, Mother Nature agrees to save her. Mother Nature releases four of her spirits into the world — Arielle, Terra, Fuego, and Mizu. These are incredible kids with human gifts that are required to restore the health of the earth, each a symbol of nature’s powerful elements. But how will they restore the health of the earth? The answer to this question is the interesting aspect of this book.
Here is a book that will instill in children a new consciousness and drive them to think of themselves as stewards of the earth and the people responsible for her well-being. The book is beautifully written and I enjoyed reading it with my seven-year-old son and four-year-old daughter, and they fell in love with the characters. The authors tell a story that is very meaningful and timely, an inspirational story that will teach young readers the right attitudes — selflessness, caring for the earth, tolerance, collaboration, and a lot more. The writing is great and filled with images and meaningful, colorful illustrations. You’ll love the beauty of the language and the musical currents running through the narrative. Readers will find a blend of exciting prose and enticing poetry. Below are lines that my son copied into his diary:
“Fire, Water, Earth, and Air,
Help me save the earth from those who don’t care.
Let’s help the world in her hour of need,
Off we go with patience, wisdom, and speed.”
The Super Sustainables: Facing the Drought by Albin Gielicz and Gonen Yacov is a gift for young readers, a book that will inspire in them lofty and endearing sentiments towards the earth. If there is a book for kids that should be on your shelf, then this is it. This book will allow your child to understand the environmental crisis we face and create in them the right attitude towards the environment.
