In The Spectacular World of Waldorf: Mr. Waldorf Travels to the Empire State of New York (Coloring Book) by Barbara Terry, Mr. Waldorf is on a new trip to New York and he takes young readers along with him while discovering this incredible place. As he is looking at the wonderful view from the Statue of Liberty, his glasses fall out of sight. Mr. Waldorf has to find his glasses before he leaves New York or else he will not be able to read books, one of his most cherished pastimes. As he goes searching for his glasses, Mr. Waldorf sees people ice skating and he stops to see more. He asks a skater if he has seen the glasses and the ice skater shakes his head and skates away. Where does Mr. Waldorf go searching for his glasses and where does he finally find them?
The story takes young readers through the sights and sounds of New York and will encourage them to travel and see new places. I like the author's idea of also making it a coloring book. That way it will be fun for children coloring the pictures while sightseeing in New York along with Mr. Waldorf. The coloring part makes the book interactive and it can be used in arts and craft activities in classrooms. Teachers will see the aesthetic abilities and creativity of each child bloom while coloring the pictures. Books like this are perfect for children because they learn so much from a story like this; they learn about the important places to visit when they travel to New York and they color the illustrations, making it a good learning and fun experience for them.
