Jewel Tyler always knew she would become an author and the love of reading inevitably directed her path. A native of Washington, D.C., Jewel spent her younger years giving back to the community through a Youth Arts organization, Pamoja, she founded. She left D.C. in 1989 to pursue a fashion design career in Los Angeles, California. Jewel obtained her PhD in January 2015.
Jewel spent the last twenty years in several successful fields. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her into several successful business ventures. She opened a chain of Exclusively Yours stores on the east and west coast - featuring handmade aromatherapy products, clothing and jewelry. She is the founder of the ‘Wake Up Girlfriend’ group on Facebook; focusing on how to overcome domestic violence and matters of the heart.
Through everything, Jewel never lost the dream to write and when the Lord called her in 2005 to "put pen to paper" regarding her walk with him, she answered by penning her intimate journey with God in the form of a book. The Skin I’m In – An Intimate Journey With God.
Jewel has received numerous certificates over the years as a guest lecturer for colleges and universities. Her awards include nods from the late Mayor Tom Bradley, Michael Woo as well as Maxine Waters in Los Angeles, for her fashion design business & youth outreach program. Jewel was spotlighted in ‘Book Writing Magazine’ and also a guest on ‘The Write Stuff’ and 'In The Room At Noon' radio talk shows.

The Skin I'm In: An Intimate Journey With God (Volume 1) by Jewel Tyler is the author's personal journey with God which helped her face adversities in life with a lot of strength. The author shares with readers her trials and tribulations, and how she overcame it all with spiritual help and forming an effective relationship with God. The author's story is emotional and inspiring. The author motivates readers to move closer to God and this book will prove to be helpful to all those who are in similar situations and do not know how to cope.
Though the theme is an oft-repeated one, each book has a different perspective and that is what makes it a unique story. The presence of God is an integral part of our lives. That thought is reiterated through the story and the author's experiences. It can be used as guide for those who are lost in life and want to find their way. The book is engaging and has a nice flow which will keep readers engaged. The honest depiction of happenings in the author's life gives it credibility and effect.
The author's story is touching and many readers can relate to it. The book, true to its title, is indeed the author's intimate journey with God and it inspires many others to make that connection with God and bring happiness and joy into their lives.
