The Silent Compass by Serene Martin is a collection of poetry that will make you reflect on your life. In a piece titled "Spilled Milk," Martin pens the lines, "Cause time wasted will soon be karma tasted, Which battles are worth fighting? Which words are best left hiding?" It's a good piece that makes us reflect on what things are best left unsaid that only stir up arguments and make trouble in relationships. In "Because We Can Change," she explores how we make our own destiny and that everything in life is a conscious choice. I love the opening line, "When I stopped believing in luck, I was no longer a victim of circumstance." How often do we encounter people who feel that they are victims of bad luck in their lives and moan and groan about it? This poem tells it like it is and it made me feel lighter, less burdened and more in charge of my own future.
This collection of 24 poems by Serene Martin in The Silent Compass covers topics including "The Economics of Love," "Do We Really Need To Figure it Out?" "Sleep" and "The Awakening," among many others. Martin's goal in this book is to explore "the struggle of wandering souls who relentlessly seek a treasure," and "reach those desperate to fit into the societal molds that have been carved out for them." Aren't we all doing that in our jobs and our relationships? No matter who you are or what you do, you will be able to relate thoughts contained in these pages. Martin mines her life experiences to offer wisdom and sage advice through the telling of these tales. The poems in The Silent Compass by Serene Martin are relatable, thought-provoking and worthy of your time and contemplation.
