The Serpent's Mark: Book 1 by Tamera Lawrence is a young adult supernatural mystery. Rachel Lark has been in foster care for years. She moves from home to home and finally ends up at the Second Chance Camp for foster children. She’s a city girl though, and country living just isn’t for her. Planning to run, she heads into the woods, but what she finds there is something terrifying – the biggest serpent she has ever seen. This can’t be real but when she goes for help, nothing else is what it should be either, least of all the camp leaders. Rachel has to face the evil alone, digging deep to survive using skills she never knew she possessed, Rachel is about to face her worst nightmare. Can she walk away from it unscathed? And just who, or what, are the camp leaders? What is going on at Second Chance Camp?
The Serpent's Mark: Book 1 by Tamera Lawrence is a truly original story. The first page is the hooking point and from then on there is no letting go until the very last page. This is very cleverly written book, a unique storyline that is all go. There are no dead spots, no unexplained happenings, everything ties together neatly in an all-action plot with loads of twists and turns. Just when you think you have it worked out, the story is off again and something else happens to change it all. This is an involved story with a complex, well-planned plot. Don’t write this off as a simple YA story – it is so much more than that, a story that will suit any reader who wants a book they can get involved in. Added to that, Tamera has developed her characters very well, setting the scene nicely for, I hope, book 2 – I'm very much looking forward to reading it.
