So what happens when you are walking home from school, just like every other day, and your dog’s ball disappears down a strange hole? You can see the ball, but it is just out of reach. Your inner voice tells you that it is not wise to enter the dark passage. Do you enter and not allow your fears to overtake you? Do you leave the ball and are left wondering where the hole leads to? Do you ever wonder if underneath your neighbourhood lies another mysterious world full of secrets? Two boys are about to enter a strange world and embark on an amazing adventure, and make discoveries they will never forget. What if your neighbourhood possesses a similar phenomenon? Would you be brave enough and dare to find out in The Secret of Kite Hill by Bradley Charbonneau?
The Secret of Kite Hill by Bradley Charbonneau is a really exciting adventure story that is suitable for children aged 6-14 years old, and although I am a grown woman I loved the book. The story was conceptualised by the authors' young sons. The writer shows he has an excellent grasp of storytelling and builds tension throughout, ensuring there are enough twists and turns in the plot to keep you turning the pages. His descriptive talent is also evident and I knew from just the dialogue which character was speaking. The story is consistently engaging and I loved the spirit of Lu, the Fart Destroyer. Not many children's authors get what children want to read. Just like Roahl Dahl, there are some dark elements which build tension brilliantly. Highly recommended not just for boys, but girls too.
