The Satan Clause by David McGlone is a hilarious novel about a lonely pathetic figure called Dave and his chance meeting with beautiful Nikki when she knocks on his door, needing some help. Dave cannot believe his luck when Nikki decides she wants more than the use of his phone to call a taxi. However, Dave realises the next morning that their night of passion comes with a price. Nikki is not all she seems, she has a very dark side and sets Dave a challenge. For the next twelve days leading up to Christmas, Dave must cause upset, distress and heartache to random people every day until Christmas Eve. If he doesn't succeed in his mission, Nikki will punish him eternally.
The Satan Clause by David McGlone is one of the funniest books I have read this year. From the first page, I was laughing out loud. His descriptive writing sets the scene well and I was hooked into Dave's miserable life instantly. Every character was so well written, everyone knows people like that in real life, especially awful Tommy. I felt so sorry for Godfrey though, and his continued problems caused by Dave, but I did secretly laugh at the cruel torment. The story is a brilliant and clever concept of taking the joys and happiness of the Christmas season and dragging it into the pit of hell. 'Tis the season to be jolly? Definitely not. The book is not the longest, but the story line and characters are not compromised at all. I would highly recommend this book as a side-splitting laugh from page one. Also great twist at the end, very clever.
