Author Hayley Rose has created a wonderful, imaginative, rhyming story of how Oodle the Poodle met Bauzer the Schnauzer. Children and parents will love the alliterations and rhyming story of The Ruffington Dog Show. Oodle the Poodle was performing very well until tragedy struck, but Bauzer the Schnauzer came to her rescue. Neither dog could win the show now, but they didn’t care. They had fallen in love and that was better than any ribbon or trophy.
The Ruffington Dog Show is a winning combination of well-written story with realistic, colorful illustrations. Young children love pet stories and they’ll like this book about dogs. Parents will like the storyline of how another dog gives up his chance to win the dog show by coming to help another dog that is stuck. This wonderful, heartwarming story has a happy ending, even though neither dog won the dog show. This book should help children realize the importance of helping others. The illustrations show the dogs’ emotions and help to put you into the story. The adorable, cuddly dogs make you want to hug one.
I love the illustration of the female dogs drooling over the handsome Bauzer the Schnauzer. Illustrator Kalpart provides beautiful, full color pictures that fill the pages of The Ruffington Dog Show. The realistic renderings depict the emotions the dogs might be experiencing and entertain the reader. How would you draw a puppy that has a Poodle for a mother and a Schnauzer for a father? There are so many ways that a parent can share this story with children—long after they’ve finished reading it. If you were Bauzer the Schnauzer, would you stop everything and run to help Oodle the Poodle, or would you try to win the dog show?
