Perhaps if Olivia Callahan had not visited her abusive ex-husband Monty in prison, her life would have been much better. But having suffered an assault that caused a traumatic brain injury and left her with no memory, her therapist insisted that she should look into her past to fully recover and move on. It was only Monty - clearly hell-bent on destroying her life − who could help Olivia recover her memories. Olivia’s life quickly took a deep dive into misery after visiting Monty. It all started with Monty being romantically involved with Olivia’s closest friend. Then her detective friend Hunter narrowly survived death from a bomb planted in his car, with a suspected link to Monty. As if this was not enough, Olivia realized that her mother’s evil ex-boyfriend was in the same prison as Monty. Is there more trouble coming her way and, if so, will she survive it? Find out in Kerry Peresta’s The Rising: Olivia Callahan Suspense.
Kerry Peresta’s The Rising will appeal to lovers of drama novels entwined with a detective and romance tale. Kerry hinges the narration on childhood trauma, a broken marriage, failed relationships, murder, deceit, envy, vengeance, and resentment, among others. She displays a subtle tone in the narration, unfolding a slow-paced plot while switching between the scenes of designated characters and digging through the present and the past. The depictions of scenes and characters are vivid and the characters are well developed. She couples introspection with a great depth of sentiment to bring out the characters’ traits and emotions. This made me connect and empathize with them. Callie is the type of friend anyone would dream of having; loyal, open, and honest. Olivia is an intelligent, strong, and ambitious woman who will give her all to get where she wants.
