Stan is not the innocent man everyone thinks he is. In fact, The Return of Iron Stan by Gary Turcotte is all about the way that Stan locates and kills his victims. After all, what kind of serial killer would he be if he didn’t have plenty of them? But Stan is a killer with a bit of a conscience. He kills people that are good or bad, but he doesn’t kill those who are simply ‘easy to kill.’ Instead, Stan likes to kill the ones who take effort and lately he’s started killing people who have a certain connection with someone he’s taken a shine to. This book by Gary Turcotte will leave you guessing as to what comes next.
The Return of Iron Stan is a story of death, retribution and destruction. Stan is bent on destroying as many people as he possibly can in the world because, after all, God cannot do everything by Himself and if He felt Stan needed to be stopped, well, then God would stop him. There’s death around the world after all, because sometimes God needs people to die in order to make way for the new. The trouble is, the world is after Stan. Dubbing him The Gold Coin Killer, they are out to make him pay for his crimes (despite what God may or may not think of them). It’s going to get more difficult for Stan to carry out his mission, but his master taught him well and when you’ve been taught all the tricks by a serial killer … you’re off to a good start.
This book was one I had no trouble getting into. Right from the start you are exposed to plenty of interesting details and a lot of fascinating characters. There’s no slow build-up in this book because you’re right there in the thick of things from the beginning. I liked the variety of characters that showed up throughout the book and how they all seemed to have interesting personalities. Stan was someone that you could imagine as the guy-next-door, which lent a little more to the creepy feel of this book. You won’t look at anyone the same way again.
