The Return of Betty Snickerdoodle by Pepper Frost is the first book in the Betty Snickerdoodle Mystery series. Bea is living her life just the way she wants it until her peaceful existence is disturbed by a crook that comes around with the intention of stealing her manuscript. Bea is known for her delightful Christmas romance series, which made the character of Betty Snickerdoodle famous. Bea isn’t about to let this crook take off with her manuscript and, with the help of her best friend Angela, Bea has a plan to teach him a thing or two about messing with her.
Bea is a great character who has a lot of heart and plenty of attitude that sets the tone of the mystery. Pepper Frost blends humor, heart, and mystery in a quick-witted and zany story that’s addictive from beginning to end. Bea and Angela are the perfect duo and ideal dream team whose friendship builds the fun of the mystery through their antics. The character of Betty Snickerdoodle is an important aspect of the story as the mystery revolves around the theft of a new manuscript and the importance of the character to readers.
The story is lighthearted and humorous with a cast that shines on every page while its quirky tone fits the personalities of the characters. The language is delightful and perfectly captures Bea’s attitude, which includes comparing her book series to bite-sized cookies that are gobbled up and referring to her work as syrupy stories. The Return of Betty Snickerdoodle is a fun read that cozy mystery lovers will enjoy with a spunky voice, humorous writing, and a lead character that will charm from the first page.
