When a private investigator's case takes an unexpected turn, the police arrest her for murder in the suspenseful murder mystery The Reisman Case (Claire Chastain Book 2) by Andrew Diamond. Claire Chastain is still in the process of getting her private investigator's license when Roscoe Lehman, a local businessman, asks for her help. He wants her to find out if Jacob Reisman, one of his employees, is stealing from him. While she is apprehensive about investigating without her license, she agrees to do so when Lehman tells Claire her teacher referred her to him and pays her six thousand dollars for three days. During her surveillance of Jacob, Claire discerns that the young man's emotional balance renders him incapable of stealing. While she is questioning Jacob, he gets into her personal space and doesn't back down. Frightened, Claire runs out of his apartment and races away in her car. Someone murders Jacob right after she leaves, and Claire is the prime suspect. Determined to prove her innocence, Claire ignores her attorney's advice and delves into Jacob's history to find the killer's motive. Who is Jacob Reisman, and why would someone want to kill him?
Intense and suspenseful, The Reisman Case (Claire Chastain Book 2) by Andrew Diamond is a gripping murder mystery. Well-written, the story has engaging characters and a suspenseful plot. The protagonist, Claire, is a forceful and tenacious character. Even though the exterior of her personality is rough, she is genuine and relatable. The storyline moves at a steady pace, with the suspense and intensity growing with every page. It is an exciting sleuth murder mystery that promises to entertain everyone who admires hard-boiled female private eyes with attitude. Although this is the second Claire Chastain book, it does very well as a standalone.
