The Purple Elephant by Donna McFarland is a wonderful children’s story. It is the story of King Pop Cornelius and his son, Prince Carmel. The Prince and his father live in a kingdom full of animals and the Prince has a zebra called Zane for a pet. Prince Carmel and Zane often go off on adventures around the kingdom but the Prince has always been told, if he sees a purple elephant he must never touch it – but nobody will tell him why. One day, the Prince sees a purple elephant and he touches it. The elephant charges and chases Zane and the Prince all the way back to the castle. His grandmother and the King tell him he must now travel to Unicorn Mountains and he will be chased by the elephant until he reaches a certain tree by a small pool. He takes his grandmother’s parrot with him to act as a lookout for the elephant. Through a number of close calls and a trail of cookies, the Prince and his companions make it to the Unicorn Mountains, but if you want to know what happens next, you will just have to read the book for yourself.
The Purple Elephant by Donna McFarland is a great story. I found it to be highly entertaining and I am sure my grandchildren would love it. The language is simple, it has wonderful illustrations, and a touch of humor that gives the story a little something extra. I would highly recommend this book to any parent of young children and I guarantee that any age group will enjoy it!
