Todd Knight’s The Posh Prepper is a dystopian novel featuring crisis planner Nick Ritter. He learns that his boss promised he would check the mining operation. After a disaster in the mine, Nick opens his disaster preparation firm for high-paying clients. His brother calls him to warn him of a deadly virus outbreak while he is in a meeting with T.J. Chandra. T.J. insists on bringing him along, as Nick plans to fly to New Zealand. When they reach the assigned pilot, Brian, he brings his wife and daughter. Along the way, Nick picks up Brian’s sister-in-law, a pregnant runaway, an older half-blind man, a Downs syndrome kid, and a dog. Nick has to plan for the survival of eight people while facing a hillbilly militia, and his window of opportunity is closing fast.
Todd Knight builds suspense with each person who joins the group. The unpredictable plot’s intrigue kept me invested in every page. I liked how each person has a distinct personality. For instance, T.J.’s ability to navigate the internet and speak out proves his lack of real-world experience. I understood how overwhelming the odds were for Nick, especially after he had issues lingering from the mine episode. The detours and unplanned interference from outsiders required him to make snap decisions he didn’t like. I was curious how the operator system he set up was still working with the virus. How the operator could organize escape options within seconds was fascinating. The transitions between each character’s views are seamless. The vivid details in the action make each moment easy to imagine. The timeline of events is easy to follow. The Posh Prepper will appeal to readers who like action, adventure, and intense scenes with realistic characters.
